Miniature astronomical ring dial. Height sundial. 17th and 18th century. In this model, Latitude is fixed to 40, 4º.

Also known as the Universal Equinoctial Ring Sundial, this instrument is used to determine Solar time. The ring dial, the armillary, or dials indicate the principal circles of the heavenly sphere: the meridian, the equator, and the solstice meridian.
